The biggest festival in the history of Bangkok that centers on creative design will be the Design Week 2018 which is scheduled to start on January 27 and will last for nine days until February 4. Bangkok Design Week is going to present 230 showcases as well as exhibitions organized by over 500 desginers together with entrepreneurs. There will be a lot of creative activities as well as markets. Guests should book an accommodation at a boutique hotel in Sukhumvit in order to catch the festivities.
The festival is set to happen in different venues from various neighborhoods all over the city including Sukhumvit, Charoenkrung, Rama 1 and Wongwian 22. Majority of the events will only be a few blocks from the stations of the MRT and the BTS. It is recommended that locals should not bring their car when planning to participate.
The theme of the festival is called The New-ist Vibes. The organizer of the festival partnered with TCEB or Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, BMA or the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and TCDC or Thailand Creative and Design Center. The festival’s main goal is to provide a channel for local Thais to feature their designs and creativity as they launch to the public their projects and ideas. The design presented during the festival will represent three various concepts including creative business, city and living and well-being and gastronomy.
There will be six categories to see during the festival and the biggest will be the collaboration between creative entrepreneurs and designers. The Floating Park will be one of the festival’s highlights and it is made by Shma, a landscape architectural company in Bangkok.
There will be symposia for those interested and talks are also scheduled for people who wanted to be motivated in developing their ideas. Speakers will include IKEA’s creative director, Kaave Pour and Angelo Vermeulen, a PhD biologist and NASA collaborator.
Guests who are already staying at a boutique hotel in Sukhumvit will be able to witness the festival as the location is one of the venues. This is also a good chance for startup entrepreneurs to present their business, find match and talk with specialists in the field.
