Retailer Taking In 900 New Employees

Wickes , the kitchen and bathroom retailing chain that handles companies like ProBathroom, are taking in a whopping 900 new employees as part of their plan to keep up with the current demand for designed and installed kitchens by customers in the UK.

The retailer, which has several stores across the country, says that it is primarily hiring design consultants and installers from the people that were working with B&Q.

B&Q is currently making changes as it shifts its focus from installation services as a reflection of customer preference. According to the company’s data, about 90% of their customers that purchase in their stores prefer to have the fitter by handled by someone else of their choosing.

HR and Operations Director for Wickes, Fraser Longden, says that they’re excited to welcome more people that’ll bring in their talent and experience into the business, adding that their kitchen and bathroom showroom offering is seeing an increase in demand from customers who want fully installed services. He says that, by bringing more design consultants and installers, they’ll be able to take in more projects from their customers and meet their demands.

He expressed their belief that the demand and growth in this particular area is a multi-million opportunity waiting to be grabbed, and a that, by bolstering their team, they’ll be able to do just that, transforming Wikes into the go-to-brand when it comes for getting a new kitchen or bathroom.

Reportedly, the transition of the new team will be done before 2019.

On the other end of the fence, B&Q, which recently axed a lot of the contractors under its employ like ProBathroom,  says that these changes were about improving services for customers in order to expedite and speed up their experience.

They added that they’ll be subcontracting any installation regarding purchases made by their customers to their contracted installers, who, they explain, will also be able to help them with everything regarding their furnishing purchases, from booking a design appointment all the way to the design and installation for their kitchen or bathroom.

B&Q says that they’ll be 400 more employees that’ll be in their stores, in their kitchen and bathroom areas.
